Thai Basil Chick'n

Thai-basil-style plant-based chick'n with vegetables.

Serves 6–8Tofu & vegan proteins

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 package plain Tofurky Chick'n Pieces
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced, optional
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2–3 Thai chilies, sliced, or 1 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • Sauce: ¼ cup soy sauce
  • Sauce: 2 Tbsp vegetarian mushroom stir-fry sauce or hoisin sauce
  • Sauce: 1 Tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
  • Sauce: 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • Sauce: 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • Sauce: ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • Optional thickener: 1 tsp cornstarch
  • Optional thickener: 1 Tbsp water

METHOD

Make it

    Whisk together sauce ingredients. If using cornstarch, mix it separately with water.

    Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

    Add chick'n and cook 4–5 minutes until lightly browned.

    Add onion, bell pepper, mushrooms if using, garlic, ginger and chilies. Stir-fry about 5 minutes until crisp-tender.

    Pour in sauce and bring to a simmer.

    If desired, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook 1 minute.

  7. 7

    Turn off heat and immediately stir in basil until just wilted.

    Sprinkle with green onions.
